Grizzly Count Low: So They Think

In the article" Barely Enough Grizzlies," Marry Chalier, Staff Reporter of the Wall Street Journal, states " Government wants them on the Endangered," referring to the grizzly bears, and asks " How many is enough?"

The species of grizzlies are considered dangerous to all species but a natural enemy to humans, the clash is fatal. In 1975 grizzlies was put on the endangered list sicne they were only thought to total 1,000. Federal officials now say they have rebound by there isn't any hard evidence to support this. Evironmentalists, however, believe that even if the grizzly popluation have incresed they are still endanger.

They is still not enough to take them off the endangered list. The group is still going to be small to take away animal federal protection, Ateempt to take a consues has failed since it semms that the grizzly seems to elude humans; this makes it hard to get rid of the false accusation of their being just 1,000. Richard Mace, once tried to take a picture of a family of bears and his camera was slashed. He said" when the camera flashed, the grizzly slashed."

Biologists and Environmentalist are slowly making progress to protect not only the humans btu the animals as well. Animals are important to our environment but also dangerous for humns. If they are going to try to count the grizzlies they need to try a little harder.

What if they have a accussation and it is not true? That means that their are grizzly bears roaming al over and not accounted for. Endangered species are important to humans and the environment. If we do not try to stop the extinction of animals we will becom extinct ourselves. humans are messing with nature for their own selfish reasons but feign suprise when they found out that certain animals are exticnt.

Bush ignored the extinction of species but Obama aknowledged them. He created the Endagered species act bringing science back. People will soon realize how important animals are untill their gone

Another Nuclear War: Serious or Empty Threat

In the article" Kaorean War Part 2?" Choe Shang-Hun give readers background information and possiblites for the threats made from North Korea. North Korea is a poor communist country compared to South Korea. Their history goes back unitll 1953 which , was the end of the Korean War.

Few people have a say in North Korea under communism and this causes less freedom than South Korea. North Korea rivals South Korea because of their history of war and is making threats against them and the U.S. Kin Jong Un was made leader after the death of his dad but nothing has changed.

They are both unpredicatable. He has made several threats to lauch nuclear weapons into American and South Korea.

However no one knows the reason behind this threat. There are a few specualtion why but no one have the exact reason. One specualtion is that Kim Jong Hun is trying to strenthen his image in North Korea.

Another speculation is that he is trying to put pressure on the U.S and South Korea to negotiate his terms on his nuclear progrram. The most common specualtion is that Kim Jong Un is derranged. No one will no the reasons for the threats but it seems as if he has an American buddy to give American a hint, Dennis Rodman.

This threat could be serious or it could be empty. America seems lost on this situation and they need to find their head soon. America is preparing by spending $1 bllion dollars on " additonal missile" in Alasa and Calorinia. Are we already in debt?

How in the world are they going to spend $2 bllion dollars for missiles when were're resscion American needs to prepare but how can they prepare when were're in debt ?

This situation is complete out of our hands and we need to ask for help. Why would Dennis Rodman buddy with a man who is trying to supposedly blow up our contry?

There aernt many possbilities to handle this situation but to prepare the best we can and wait. Will this harm us tremedously or just a little?Im all out of possiblities to help this situation.

Raisng Minium Wage: Pros and Cons

In the article" Time for a Raise?"Patricia Smith shares an interesting fact involving the White House. President Obama wants to increase the minium wage to $9 an hour.

There are pros to this situation. Employees who get paid mininum wage and need to support their family can make  earn more money. President Obama said " It could mean the diffrence between groceries or the food bank, rent or eviction, scraping by or finally getting ahead . For business across the country it would mean customers with more money in their pockets."

There are cons to Obama raising minnium wage. Alot of companies who higher minimun wage empployee's will have to increase their cost of doing business. This means they will have a hard time paying employee's and giving current ones raises.

There are also the small business that do not have enough to pay their employee's already. This can cause a inflation of unemployment. Speakers of the House, John Boecher said" At a time when the American people are still asking the question, ' Where are the jobs?' Why would we want to make it harder for small employers to hire people?".

Many argue that  raisng minimum wage to emplyee's makes it unfair to employes who are not on minimun wage.

There are still questions an no sultions. This makes me happy because I am a teenager and thats all we are getrting paid. Yet there are alot of downsides to this law. Have they come to man impasse or a solution?

Will the answer affect us in a bad way or a good way? This law can help me in a long rong because they are making it harder for public school teenagers to get scholar ships.

You have to literally jump through hoops to get into a good college and get a good scholarship. If they raise minimun wage I will be able to save money.

However there are many problems with raisng minimum wage. This law can either go good or drop to bad. Im not sure wether to choose raise the wage or not.

Found Peom

For The Love of Books

To read books that might sit otherwise untouched
To find happiness in another
Is an energized reach for peace that has achieved
Set backs have been outwieghed
In a gesture of recognition
Lurking barely beneath the surface
Beyond faddish interest
A deeper pride creeps up when you spend enough time
Beggining to fill in
The mind and heart
You can fly without
promises, written into deeds and other instruments
words with size rather than shape

Reflection: My poem is about books and I chose these certain articles because each one contributed to my poem about books. I found each article by thinking of a word or words that I wanted to be in my article and the  types that word into the search. My poem is trying to say that books make you free and each one has its own adventure. My poem have nothing to do with any of these articles because the words I needed to create my poem came from articles that had nothing to do with books. It was really fun to create a found poem because you could take words from any article and make it your own.The first thing I did was look for an article that appealed to me. Then I went on from there and bulit my peom. Believe it or not after the last line I made the tittle. This was really a great experience.

Nobody's Safe From The Evil Of Money, Even The Animals

In the article" Slaughter of the Arfican Elephants" by Samantha Strindberg and Fiona Maisels tells readers a poignant fact about the African elehpants. African elephants are being slaughtered brutally for their tusks.
62 percent of the elephants were gone from the African forest in a spand of 10 years. Elphants are being paoched for their ivory and mostly far east countries are bying the ivory. They are on a demand and the ivory is limtied making it more expensive. " An elphants tusks have become bling for consumers who have no idea or simply dont care that it was obtained by inflicting terror, horrendous pian and death..."

These elephants are being killed off from extention but they are a huge factor in the ecological sysem. The help habitats, trees, and biodiversity. The elphants are scared to roam far from the family which keeps them from spreading their natural gardening scale.

Even though the elphants are protected there are still paochers who have easy access and are easlit able to slaughter the elphants. The elphants are becoming slowly less and less if people continue to demand ivory.

In the article Samntha Stringberg and Fiona Maisels goes on to say that the elphants need more protection and for the police to follow the money laudering to stop the paoching business. This is happening in one of the continents that's considered to have the most povery in it's inner countries.

How can they afforrd more protection for ELEPHANTS when they cant even help their own people. Firt thing first there are problems way bigger in Africa that needs the police attenion like the trafficking of women and children. All the animals are important and we do need to stop the demand of ivory because this could not only hurt the animals but us also.

People who are buying the ivory are probably ignorant to the fact that people are brutally killing animals so we need to make it to their attention. As as conservation activist they need to raise the most awareness and get peoples attention the best way the can.

Education Highly Valued

In the article" Failure is not an option," Sharon La Franiere reveals an interesting fact.In China there is a test called"gaokao(gow-kow)" that raises the stakes and determine the furure of 9 million Chinese students this year. It is sort of like the SAT's but the test is "twice as long and the stakes are much higher."

About three to five students make the cut and if they do not pass they have to wait a yeasr to retake it. The exam preperation are crucial and any mikstakes can hurt their results or chance to take the test so students try thier best not to mess up or arrive late. China is a country that values education highly and gaokao is considered the course set of one's life.

For Chinese students the preperations are stressful and overwhelming. Zhao Xiang, a high school graduate from Guizhou Province took the test and her comment was, Sometimes it was pressure from my family, sometimes it was preure from myself." Schools in Chiona sat aside senior year of highschool as a year for the gaokao. Lui from Tiajin, in eatern China said," I want to study until the lat minute and I really hope to be successful."

This test determines everything for the future of the youth. America should take notice of this because while other conutries value education highly we waste it down the drain. This should be and example to America and this should let them know that education is taken for granted here.

Many students who are successful in America are not from America. Asian children value education so they excal in life while Americans believe that everything is handed to them. Children from other countries work hard for thier education because in certain countries education is not easy to get.

My techers complain all the time that students waste education and learning experience and I agree. I want to get all the education I can while I can because now and days the government is cuttring budgets on school and before we know it schools are only going to be for weathy kids.

Nobody wants this so as Americans we need to step up more toward education befor it dissovles

Banning Of Women On Combat Lifted

In the article " Sisters in arms," James Dao informs readers that the military is lifting the banning on woman in combat. In 2001, the wars in Iraq and Afganistan has changed the milatries needs.

Today, women make up about 15% of the 1.4 million active-duty in the U.S millitary. There are people who support this but htere are people who have there worries. Such as the millary is skeptism about womens abilities in active duty.

The military worry about the mental and physical abilites in active duty. They worry about the image the coonatations the milatary will have when a women returns from the war dead and they also worry about the standards would be lowered or people to join the milatary to accomadate the women.

Greg Jacob is a former U.S Marine officer who supports the change said" If the best shot in the platoon is a woman, I can make a snipper. But untill now I coudnt do that."

Other countires have already took that step in allowing women in combat, what took us so long?Women have been proving they are capable for so long and men still dont get it. We are equal and deseve to be treated as that.

We do not want to sit in the house and gossip all day . We want to take the world by storm and see the world. We want to show the men that whatever they can do , we can do as well. My aunt is in the army and she told me that men often often throw sexist comments but when she is out on the field they stare at her in awe.

As young lady myself I want to show the world that I am capable of handling the big dogs and will get dirty with them as well to stay on top.

CyberWar Attack

In the article"CyberWar"Patricia Smith informs readers that there is a cyberwar going on between America, china, And Iran. Saudi Arabia's oil company, whcih is the most valuable owned company, was attacked and 75 percent of their documents, emails, and files were replaced wiht a picture of a burning American flag.

The U.S officials say Iran was behind the attack but some of the attacks are from China as well. China trys to hack American computers for imformation , meanwhile Iran hacks American computers for damage. Iran didnt just attack Saudi Armanco, The most valuable company in the world, they also attacked some of Americans largest banks. Obama decided to use cold name Olympic Games. This is the idea to "slow down  or halt Iran's suspected nuclear weapons program." America retaliated in 2009 with a sophisticated computer virus called Stuxnet. It wiped out a fifth of Iran's centrifuges, which used to make nuclear weapons." The notion that you can carry out a cyberwar and defeat the other ugy without carrying out conventional war is absurd."

This is bad for the people in the U.S. What does this means for us. What if they hack into the transportation system and derail the trains. I catch the train to school all the time. My younger siblings catch the train as well.

They could just kill us without letting the people in America know what happened. Will America continue to cover this up and hope for the best. Obviously if it is that easy to get into the most valuable company , what else can they do.

Is this a warning that this will turn into a war. A war that we might not when. What if China And Iran team up just to destroy us. China makes most of America's things so what if they stop supporting us. This cannot be good. Is America going to warn it's people when it goes to far?

False Image

In the article " The Africa You Havent Heard About " by John Kron suprises readers and say that Arfica is actually an econimic dynamo. America portrays the image that Africa are of famine, genocide, corrupt governments, and bloody war but Africa really have the fastest-growing econmy.

The Unites States and Europe struggle with their economies but one of the fastest-growing econimes from 2001-2010 were Africa. There are two major factors are bursts of inter national investments and the rise of entrpreneurs.

The majority of the entrepenuerity are women. Alot of inetrnational companies are invested in Africa, especially China.

" While America may largely mispercieve Africa as a disator zone China sees the contenints promise." says New York columinst Nicholas. The number of poverty in Africa have went down roughly 10 percent.

The Africa we all know as a country of disater has potential. This is entirley suprises. This shows how ignorant we are to other countries.

Africa econmy is as strong as ours but they are growing. Instead of trying to battle over oils and other minerals in MiddleEast we should turn our sites to Africa. We are trying to help them so why cant this be one of the ways?

America often portray image that Africa is all about the poor. My father if from Guniea and his house was bigger than the one he has in America.

My friend was from Nigeria and her commnuity was better taken care off than some of the homes in America. america should invest in Africa as well. It can probably help us more than the MiddleEast.

Wrong connotations for Valentine day

Alot of people are saying America today do not care about marrage and will have sex without love but, Valintine day brings back the love in romance. Expectations wasnt the same for love in marrage as it was in the 1800's.

marriage was more of an arrangement than a companionship. Valentine was really granted a holiday by the Roman Catholic to limit of sexual passion.

Churches even went far as to malign marriage and encourage women to stay celibate. not untill 100 years later, after the late 17th century, people started to agree that Valentine day was based on love and marriage. Present day  the high expections of marriage often end in disaters.

Although divorce was a higher rate , marriage has improved. Bak then violence, adultery, and day-to-day misery was expected in marriage.

Now marriage is more fullfilling. Marriage is suppose to be about love and passion not an arrangement. I was wshocked to know that Valentine was not about romance and that marriage was frowned upon.

Now and days being un married without love is on the same scale as sex without marriage. Often times people do enter surreal marriages that lead into disapointments. My aunt was married four times and they all ended with pain and a child.

I expect to marry one day and the key to marriage is love, trust, PASSION, communication and loyalty. I dont want to enter a marriage on a dream or naive but with copromise and communication.

I dont want my marriage to end in divorce i want to have a marriage that last until death do us apart.

Greenland or Mineland ?

In the article" The Great Race " by Elizabeth Rosenthal she informs the readers that the artic in Greenland is a gold mine. Beneath the artics ice are mineral resoures. Other scientists are worrying about the climate change.

Conversley other scientists are excited over the resources in Greenland's artic such as oil, gas, precious gems, and rare earth minerals. Action is taking place in Greenland and people are staking claims.

Countries wants parts and China is the agressive player in all this. They have been alarm among Western power. Chinese companies are financing the develope of minds. However, the U.S./ Russia, and several European nations have territory int the artica ,China doesnt Thats just the beginning.
Experts estimate that more that 20% of the worlds oil and gas are contained in the artic. In placs wer exploring s werent much, now the haggling as begun.

Canada is the haggler and they are against the U.S. and Denmark."We are treated so differenly than just a few years ago," says Jens B. Fredriksen, Greenland's vice premier," We are aware that is because we have something to offer." Grennland's main is exploration.

The melting of the sea ice has made the transportation of mined minerals easier. Oher attemps to mine has failed because of the cold and ice. Now that it's warming it has become less expensive. 100 new sites have been mapped out and companies altogether spent $100 million exlporing Greenland companies are applying for licensce to construct.
The discover of rare minerals are huge in Greenland because China is currently holding almost all the worlds rare earth minerals. " This is huge," said Eric Songergaard a geolists at Ausrtlaian company," could be mining this for the next 100 year."
This is really itAmerica. I think that Greenland should look at the situations at all angles.

China should stop trying to take over everything. Greenland should sit down with each country and take in each opotunity that are giving. Good or bad.

These countries should try to hanlde Greenland other way instead of agreesivley trying to take parts like a dog on a bone.

Minority Raing in Majority

In the article "The New Face of America," Veronica Majerol brought up an interesting fact about Americas population. Last spring Census Burea announed that a shift in our nation has risen. The birth of minorites are out numbering the white.

The manority of the population is made up of with Hispanic, African American,, American Idiana, Native American, Asian, Pacific Islander, and Alaska Native.
Facts have been added to the shift. First, in 30 years the immigration for the U.S. has been highest in countries of Mexico, China, Idiana, and the Phillipines.

The Immigration Act in 1965 opened opportunities for immigrants.Second , the minorities have a higher birth rates than whites.
The idea that you're Hispanic and you can marry someone that's Asian, what does that mean to a couple of generations down the road?" asks Frey. There is a rise in muliracial and muliethnic in America.

Finally, the white population in theU.S. are older and are not haveing alot of children. Sice Lations are becoming bigger in population the demographics are pressuring both major parties.
They have to start adressing their concerns to minorities espically Hispanics.

" I think the 2012 presidental election gives us a sneek peek on what's going to happen in the presidential elections ahead and Hispanics are going to have more to say."By 2030, the number of Hispanic voters could rise to 40 million.

By 2020, whites will likely make up less than half of the under 18 population.
This is great. America is becoming a huge mixing pot. Bring different cultures to the talbe of knowledge.

What is so wrong with that? This is the 21st Century people not the 13th Century. Get over the black and white days. Now the days are blue, red, green, and purple. When I was younger I hung around all types of cultures and learned alot of different things.

Why would you not want to broaden your horizen ? Itsn' this a cultural world we live in ? Why would people deny that America needs diversions to make it appeal to other countries?

Have we not left our past of pain or de we still want to be reminded of Americas "race problem".

Forgiving Lance Armsrtong

In the article "Give Lance another chance?" CNN asks wether views should give Lance Armstrong for using perfomance-enhanced drugs. There are people who agree to forgive and others who don't. Frida Ghitis says that Lance has a chance to redeem himself.

She says "His dept and atonement are not limited to the cycling or to sports." Randy Cohen said that all bigtime cyclist should doped confess. "If many cycling fans are right, most of the top riders engaged in doping," said Randy Cohen.

Roxanne Jones said he's not trustworthy. She commented "No, gets no second change from me. There are to many reasons to question his apology."

Kevin Powells said that we all have flaws. He stated" So, yes I do think anyone can be redeemed, and should another chance if he shows true remorse for his bad deeds."Shawn Klein says that cooperation can reduce a ban for lifteime.

Klein said" If Armstrong is sincerely contrite and forthright in his apology, most prople, including myself, will forgive him for his use of prohibited drugs."Everbody maskes mistakes. We're human we are inclined to mess up.

Lance Armstrong should be forgiven but he doesnt need to back in cycling. I agree with Kevin Powells when he says" But I am not a here to judge nor cinvist him." People who judge are people who made the biggest mistakes in life.

I often make mistakes in life and would want to be forgiven for them. As long as we recognize our mistakes and want to be forgiven from our hearts we should be forgiven. Lance Armstong deserve forgiveness.

Civil War in Syria

In the article " Civil war in Syria raises questions about when to intervene," Jan'nai Dalaney discuss the civil war in Syria and wether or not the U.S. should intervene. The fighting in the civil war over in syrian forced refuges to find movine to tents in close countries in only a short term solution sice they do not have any legal rights.

The parties involved in the civil war is the anti - regime protest and those who are loyal to the current prsident Bashar al -Assad. The ant - regime want to establish a democracy and this anti-regime includes  Free Syrian Army, the Syrian Army and fighters across the region.

This also included most untrained men with deadly weapons. The people who support President Bashar al - Assad are well trained military with more advanced Military. The U.S. and it's allies support the anti - regime group and will not intervene unless Assad uses chemical weapons on the people.

The Assad supporters claims to have stores of chemical weapons and there are to be used against foreign invasions not its own people. Majority of the fighting is taking place in Aleppo, which is Syria's largest cities. To track violations, Amnesty international USA  is using satellite to see destruction in the country. This will make it easier to identify war criminal once the fighting ceases.

We already have our hand in other pots that s doesn't need to be there so what's taken the US so long to help ?  If the U.S gets involved will it be to late ?  Are we doing it for our image or from our hearts ? After we help Syria will the people who lost retaliate ? What will we do then ? Someone needs to plan this out carefully before we go rushing in head first ?

More Play Time

In the article " All work and no play : Why your kids are more anxious, depressed," Esther Entin says that children with sortened playtime can have long-term consequences.

The play decline can stop children from developing into competent and confident adults. Peter Gray P.h.D professor of psychology beleves that " lack of childhood free playtime is huge loss that must be addressed for the sake of our children and society."

He believes that  mothers are apart of the reason playtime is sortened. Mothers responed and said it was for saftey reasons. Gray provides five benifits for more playtime.

He states that playtime provides a foundation for their future. Grey believes that " learning to get along and cooperate with others as equal may be the most crucial evoltionary function of human society." Gray's first benifit is that playtime gives children a chance to develop a connection to their own sel-identified interests.

He notes " kids learn to direct themselves and pursue and elaborate on their inmterests in a way that can substain throughout life." Another benifit he provided is that through playtime children lern to " make decisions , solve problems, exert self control, and follow rules.

He said " As children direct their own free playtime and solve the ploblems that come up, the must exert self control over themselves .... "
Another benifit Gray provides is that children makes friends and learn to treat as each others as equal. He says " social play is a natural means of making friends and learning to treat others fairly."

Another benifit is that children learn to control their emotions. Gray states " In playtime, children put themselves into both physically and socially challenging situation and learn to control the emotions that arise from the stressors."

The last beifit is that play is a source of happiness. He says " we have not taken way joys of free time, but replaced it with emotionally stressful activites."

In this article they conclude that less playtime can lead to depression and anxiety. This is a huge leap between the two. My little brother dosent have as mush playtime as he used to because of the saftey issues.

This Gray guy doesnt mention one thing about saftey only about free this and free that but not about the dangers of more free time. I didnt have as mush free time and im not depressed.

The Closing of schools

In the article " Philadelphia superintendent identifies schools he intends to close"' Kristen A. Graham discuss the superintendent reasons and the outcomes of closing down so many schools. They released a number on Thursday that is staggering and considered the largest reduction of the Philadelphia Scholl District. Thirty-Seven school buildings are closings and all closings decisions a has made two goals-" boosting throughout the district and ensuring it's long-term viability," said superintendent William R. Hite Jr.

The closing of the schools will save about $28 million. The Philadelphia school district recently borrowed $300 million just to pay bills. " If we don’t take these actions now, we will actually no money to spend," Hite said. Academics are also a major factor in schools closing. The District is struggling academically. Eighty-two percent missed the standard testing mark on math and/or reading.

There are those who oppose the closing of so many schools and suggest that the school closings are a tactic to weaken or destroy the public system. Jerry Jordan, the president of the Philadelphia Federation of Teacher accused the district of trying to "kill the neighborhood public schools."

I can understand the saving money part but what I don’t understand is cramping schools together will solve what ? It only makes the class rooms bigger and more crowded but they are supposedly laying off teachers in the process as well. They are not giving these schools more scrutiny because a lot of teenager’s these days have huge fights against certain schools.

For example what if they close Germantown High school and merge them in Martin Luther King . That will cause complete turmoil. My cousin attends Germantown High school and always talks about the fights between schools.

A lot of schools they are merging together are like that and stuffing the classrooms aren’t going to help either. What really needs to happen is for people to stand up and take action against so may school closing. The superintendent needs to sort this problem out from all angles and not just based on money and academics.
